Now Hiring - ReStore Manager



Columbia County Habitat for Humanity is seeking an experienced professional to manage its ReStore in Hudson, NY. ReStore is a retail operation open to the public, which sells donated furniture, housewares, appliances, building supplies and other home improvement merchandise at discounted prices. All proceeds are used to build houses for Habitat partner families in Columbia County. Reporting to the Executive Director, the ReStore Manager is responsible for the overall business performance of ReStore within the larger Habitat for Humanity philosophy and program. Primary responsibilities include development and successful execution against plans / budgets; effective acquisition, marketing and sale of quality merchandise; daily management of store operations; and training and supervision of ReStore staff and volunteers.

Role Responsibilities

  • Promote donations and drive sales and profits of ReStore to provide sustainable funding for Columbia County Habitat’s mission.
  • Work with affiliate staff to develop marketing and advertising programs to build store’s visibility in the community.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with potential and existing donors to increase quality and quantity of donated merchandise.
  • Oversee the effective merchandising of the sales floor, maximizing available display space and using inventory control and pricing to ensure appropriate turnover of merchandise.
  • Hire and train ReStore staff; establish annual performance goals for each and monitor performance results, formally reporting results at least annually.
  • Work in partnership with affiliate staff to recruit, train and engage volunteers in meaningful ways.
  • In partnership with Executive Director, establish, implement and review policies and procedures for the safe, secure and high quality performance of all aspects of ReStore activities.
  • Oversee scheduling of all store activities; lead weekly / monthly meetings of ReStore staff and volunteers; create monthly report of sales activities, expenses, volunteer hours and outreach activities to provide snapshot of ReStore current state.
  • Work in conjunction with Executive Director to develop and maintain operations within the annual operation budget and ensure compliance with all financial reporting practices.
  • Develop relationships with other area ReStore Managers to identify ‘best practices’ and programs that are mutually beneficial.
  • Participate in ReStore-related training opportunities.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience / Skills

  • BA or equivalent degree gained or in process
  • Results-orientation with documented success in management of retail operations, preferably in not-for-profit and/or industry related to ReStore products
  • Demonstrated leadership, administrative, communication, financial and skills
  • Ability to plan, schedule, prioritize, coordinate, delegate and manage multiple work activities
  • Attention to detail and overall quality control
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and public relations skills
  • Ability to reach out to donors, customers, volunteers and other stakeholders and to deal well with a variety of people with different backgrounds and personalities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, QuickBooks and other products used in sales environment
  • Dedication to and ability to articulate the mission and core values of Columbia County Habitat for Humanity
